@Anonymous: Exactly. Unfortunately, I think some companies are a) afraid of being sued, b) unwilling to let the candidate go, or c) just inconsiderate, so they don't send a rejection notice. And often the real reason for a rejection is rarely stated through official channels. That's unfortunate because there might be something the candidate could do, such as take a class or gain experience, that would make them perfect for a future job at the company. Or the candidate might learn that the need has changed and there's nothing she could have done to get the job.

@Kevin: Thanks for your comment! Glad you agree that apps should take full advantage of the capabilities of the smartphones they run on. Word Lens and Square sound pretty cool!

Great article. I think youare so right. So many of the apps I download do not fully utilize the features of the smartphone they are running on. There are some truly amazing things that can be done with these phones and its a shame to see apps skimp out on the goods just because of a lack of ambition or engineering capabilities. I know that the apps I tell me friends about are always the ones that utilize all these functions. Those are the must haves that will be remembered for some time to come.

Here are some of my personal favorite smartphone apps: Google Goggles, Red Laser, Word Lens, Sound Hound, Beluga, and of course Square...which has changed my life!

Good point. I'd heard that in the press too. I remember one checker looking at my reusable bags and saying she was glad they looked clean -- other shoppers' bags were quite dirty!

For bags that can't be washed, perhaps a disinfecting wipe would be good?
